What does A1 mean?
A1 is the first official level in the CEFR language framework. It’s for total beginners learning basic Dutch for everyday situations. After A1, you’ll be ready for A2: Beginner, where simple conversations become possible.
I don’t speak any Dutch. Will I understand the course?
Yes! This course is made just for that situation. The instructions are in English and Dutch is introduced step-by-step, so you’re always supported. Think of it as learning to bike with training wheels. I won’t let you fall.
Is there a certificate?
Yes, once you complete the course, you’ll get a certificate you can use to show your progress. It’s also useful if you’re working through Dutch visa paperwork, it lines up with the level tested in the Basisexamen Inburgering Buitenland, the A1 civic integration exam taken at a Dutch embassy or consulate abroad. Depending on your nationality, that exam is often required before an MVV visa can be issued, the step many people take before moving to the Netherlands.
How is this different from Duolingo or other apps?
This course gives you structure, real explanations and cultural insights. Not just “I am an apple” (for sure, that is funny, but not useful).

Hey Guys have to share this with you. Speaking my daily routine in Dutch was ok for me, asking a papieren tasje from a cashier and stuff like that but if i REALLY had to speak I would always get so nervous!!!
